August 2022 Happenings

Sunflower Festival
One Wednesday evening, we headed to North Salt Lake to check out Cross E Ranch's annual Sunflower Festival.

It was vast and truly beautiful. So many different varieties!

Plus, the thickness of the stems, the structure of the plants...all so fascinating!

It was beautiful and interesting and totally worth going to, but it was also EXTREMELY sweaty (90°+ direct sun + recently irrigated soil = sweating buckets!) And so after strolling awhile, we headed out.

But...not without our souvenirs. Included in the price of admission was the right to murder two lovely specimens to take home with us (weapon provided at the gate). Here's Jack with his victims. :-)

Improvements to Mi Casa
We spent lots of time in August discussing the big GARAGE project.  Where? How big? How much?  So much to decide.  We even stopped by a Tuff Shed location to check it out in person.  It's happening!

Jac also made one super effective, super creative improvement to my house this month. He got a fan to put in the kitchen window and then installed some security bars so that I can leave the fan on overnight.  It's AMAZING how much it cools down the kitchen.  The kitchen is often now the most pleasant room in the house!

Back to School Time
It's August, and August is sadly back to school time. I spent a few weeks prepping, and then started yet another year of teaching on August 18th. The kids are cute, but....free time is better. :)

To prepare, we worked together to make these little backpack lanyards. So nice of Jac to help! :)

AND...wow...Jac knew the first day back would be a little stressful and super tiring, so he surprised me with an amazing feast that night when I got home!

Plus, he arrived an hour earlier so he could turn on the AC and cool the house down before I arrived.  And, after dinner, he watered all the plants while I laid down. What an amazing guy!!!

Local Adventures in August
We aren't going to go on overnighters in August (to save money, plus August is busy) but we plan to do some local trips instead. So this August we did THREE fun local day trips.

(1) We had a fun day celebrating Jac's birthday in Park City.
(2)
We spent a day exploring the beautiful High Unitas.
(3) We explored Spring City, famous for some of Utah's best-preserved examples of pioneer architecture.

You can read about all three of them by clicking here.

And, of course, there was FOOD!
So many delicious meals.  So, so many delicious meals.  So, so, so many delicious meals.  Jac is blowing my mind!  Here's some of the wonders from this month:

Check out this beautiful and delicious Indian food feast!!!!

Last thing....the harvest is happening.  It's surprisingly fun to eat what we grew! Gardening as a hobby  is definitely here to stay.  Here's some of the veggies we harvested one day:

And here are just some of the herb cubes that we processed and froze for months and months of future use.  Yum!!
